The ephemeral world of Rone
Finding the friction point between beauty and decay is a thread that runs through much of Rone’s work. As a celebrated fixture on the international street art scene best known for his haunting, stylised images of women’s faces, he understands better than most that beauty can be fleeting.
These days, Rone’s work is found as often in galleries as it is on the streets. His work has been acquisitioned by the National Gallery of Australia, commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria to work with Jean Paul Gaultier and shown by galleries including Stolen Space in London, Urban Nation in Berlin and Allouche Gallery in New York.
In a SCREEN FOREVER first, delegates will have the opportunity to meet the artist when he appears in conversation with VR filmmaker (and member of SPA’s 2018 Ones To Watch program) Lester Francois, on the opening day of Australia’s premiere screen industry event (12 – 14 November, Melbourne). Attendees will also have the chance to be transported into Rone’s ephemeral world with ten Oculus Rift headsets available for screenings of the interactive Rone experience from 10am-4pm that day.
Produced by Francois’ Studio Bento, Rone is a 360' film and interactive VR art gallery that takes the viewer inside the titular artist’s world: we follow him into the rarely-explored spaces in which he works (an abandoned paper mill, a house set for demolition, a crumbling theatre) and learn about his unique philosophy on art and life. The film also takes the viewer into Rone's Empire exhibition and inside his studio, giving them a front-row seat to the artistic process behind his epic murals.
This session is a must see not only for producers already active in the immersive media space, but for anyone looking for inspiration and education on the future of storytelling mediums and methods.
