Karla Hart to deliver keynote at 2019 MediaRING Breakfast

 
 

For the past three years, the MediaRING Breakfast has provided an inspirational start to the second day of Australia's premier screen industry event, SCREEN FOREVER. In 2019 the event returns to provide a platform for discussion and debate on the way forward for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in developing career opportunities in the media. 

Award-winning filmmaker, actress, radio personality, Karla Hart, will take centre stage as this year's keynote speaker. Hart was Perth’s NAIDOC Artist of the Year in 2009 and 2017 and holds a WA Screen Award, WA Fringe Award, WA Performing Arts Award and a Deadly Award.  

With an extensive background in the documentary space, Hart's producing, writing and directing credits include documentary series Family Rules (NITV), On Country Kitchen (NITV), Virtual Whadjuk (VR project), Nyoongar Footy Magic (NITV), Shame (ABCME), Is Sharing Caring (ABC), Angela’s Rules (NITV) and Magic Quandong (ABC). She is also known for her work as an actress, playwright, Noongar cultural dancer and choreographer.

The event will be emceed by NITV Project Coordinator and newly appointed MediaRING Manager, Lowanna Grant. The winner of the second annual MediaRING Award will also be announced during the Breakfast.

“Our purpose, and my passion, is to create and enhance career opportunities for Indigenous Australians in the media. This is a prime example of the networking opportunities we have been able to create for our community."
