The Australian Directors’ Guild (ADG) in partnership with Screen Producers Australia (SPA) today announced that a delegation of Australian directors will attend SCREEN FOREVER in Melbourne, 12 - 14 November for the second year running.

Supported by state funding agencies, the directors will join the SPA “Ones to Watch” undertaking a special program of panel discussions, workshops and networking events to allow them full engagement with the conference and an opportunity to meet producers and production companies. All the directors attending will be presenting the projects they have developed that are ready for production at SPA Connect.

“This will be the second year we have taken a directors delegation to SPA, and this year we will build on last year’s program to ensure the directors are even more integrated into the conference program,” said Kingston Anderson, ADG CEO.

“A defining feature of SCREEN FOREVER is our ability to break down screen industry silos for the guardianship and strengthening of the industry as a whole. This applies not only to genres and platforms but also to professions and I am excited to welcome the ADG to SCREEN FOREVER for another exciting year,” said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.

The directors will be drawn from all over Australia with the support of their state agencies, which will ensure a diverse and nationally represented group of directors. The program will include:

  • first access to Roundtables and Ready, Steady, Pitch!;

  • special networking events;

  • a dedicated roundtable in SPA Connect;

  • exclusive sessions with the SPA “Ones to Watch”; plus

  • access to all conference sessions including social functions.

A call for applications for the delegation will be made later this week.

Alongside the directors’ delegation, the ADG will be hosting its first ever session at the conference titled ‘Everything you wanted to know about employing directors but were afraid to ask’. This ADG hosted panel will discuss the current state of play for directors in Australia. This includes looking at the latest agreements negotiated by SPA with television directors, our international agreements and any other agreements we have negotiated.

On the panel will be Samantha Lang (President, ADG), Gerard Butler (Industrial Relations Adviser, ADG), Kingston Anderson (CEO, ADG), Owen Johnson (Commercial and Industrial Affairs, SPA), Helen Panckhurst (Head of Production, Matchbox Pictures) and the new CEO of the ADG.

Registrations for SCREEN FOREVER are now open at www.screenforever.org.au. ADG members are eligible for a discounted Guild rate.
